Additional bonnet struts

The bonnet on my soon to be delivered BE has two sets of struts. Two that are the usual and two longer ones that connect near the wheel well. Anybody know when that change was made? Can't find it in Horler.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that's a factory setup. Just the two locking ones, one per side, and the sold prop rod that stows in front of the radiator.

Guessing someone thought the the factory set wasn't enough. Would love to see a picture of this setup.

Ray, check factory parts catalog, only listing one 14A-4691 (2). MKII, MKIII, MKIV's all use a prop rod.. I'm stump?

If they're gas strut's they may have been added to help raise the bonnet. My bad back protest's every time I raise mine.

I didn't explain things very well. See photo below.

Ray from what I see someone has added the rods to strengthen the wings. I replace all the bonnet stiffeners on my current bonnet, both wings and center of bonnet, notice no provisions for wing stiffeners, but it wouldn't hurt to have something like that. I would however recommend stiffing the apex of wheel arches on the front wings to add in strength with 5/16 round stock around the arch.

This is a late 1960 car. So you think this was a likely ad-on rather than a factory mod. I will be getting the car next Monday so I can examine more carefully.

The long prop from the wheel well to the brace at the rear is someones solution to a bent panel.

Could be Colonel. I will be able to tell in a few days. Looks like a reasonable good idea regardless.
