TR6 Adding Miata Seat Speakers to TR6

I recently installed Miata seats in my TR6, and as they include speakers in the headrest, I have decided to try to make the radio work. I currently have an 80's vintage Austin Rover mono LW/MW radio which has served me well as I only used it to fill the gap in the centre support - it was cheaper to buy the old radio than the balnking plate! With the new speakers in the seats and some newly acquired 4 inch speakers in the panels by the radio, I hope that I will be able to hear the radio now and then, so I am going to "upgrade" to a 1979/80 vintage Philips radio cassette which was recently given to me - adding FM and stereo, so a big step up... A shame I left hundreds of tapes in England when I moved over here, but there we are.

My question is how best to wire the speakers? Initially I just figured I run cables from each output (L and R) to the relevant speakers (one L and one R in each seat and one of each under the dash). This would be parallel, though, so the total resistance would be very low - would that damage the radio? Now I wonder whether series is a better bet - though I suspect that would make things very quiet. Maybe a combination of series and parallel, with the seat speakers in series, but in parallel with the dash speakers? Is this all a horrible idea?

Any advice appreciated
Alistair

You can purchase an amplifier just about anywhere that takes the L and R speaker outputs from the radio and into the amp and would have Left, right, front and rear coming from the amp, that way you would not damage your radio plus you would get more gain from the amp

Along with the amp, if the radio itself has a fader, then you can balance between the front speakers and those in the headrests.
