TR4/4A Added an Oil Catch Can

Have always found oil in the Smiths PCV valve whenever I've opened it. While it's never looked like I'm burning oil, the thought that it must be finding its way into combustion has bothered me. Have also read on different forums that there are many engines found in today's vehicles that also draw unwanted oil into the intake (particularly those engines with forced induction). Quite a few owners install oil catch cans - everything from the home made variety to some costing a couple hundred $'s.
Found this on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ADD-W1-Pol...Parts_Accessories&hash=item19eda27613&vxp=mtr
Was drawn to it because of its small size and that it was baffled. The reviews were positive so I offered $75 and it was accepted.
Installed using an old Ford alternator bracket, a distance piece, and a bolt that I fastened to the 4A's generator bracket. I cut apart and used the strands of a stainless steel pot scrubber in the baffle compartment.
It works. The valve no longer gets oil in it. The catch can does.
I'll be changing the hoses that came with the can to black ones. Other than that, I'm pleased.

It even has a dip stick

I just installed one on the 250. The mikuni carbs draw more air than the strombergs . When I really put my foot into it after some miles I would find oil drawn into the air filter and then drip onto the inner fender. I replaced the funky hose that came with the catch can with 7/16 I.D. Fuel hose from napa auto parts.

I just tried a catch can with baffle on the mini. I plumb the vacuum from the manifold like you did above with a PCV valve. The A series engines have lots of oil flying around. It suck about 1/2 quart of oil through the engine and into the exhaust in about 10 min. The smoke cloud was very impressive. I unhooked it and it took 20 min to burn out the oil from the exhaust system. Then I plumbed it into the air filter and no massive sucking, no oil cloud, and no oil coming out the valve cover cap. I think they are useful in our old cars, but the type of engine dictates how you plumb it into the system.

What a great idea! Thanks for sharing.

I like the good parts set up. I will give Richard a call this morning.
