Adapting a Generator

The generator on my 1960 BE died. I have a later model generator. I still want to run a cable driven tachometer. Can I modify a newer generator to accept the cable drive of the older generators?

You will need the armature and rear plate off the tach drive generator.
I think the main case is a little different too.
They are basically the same generator but the armature is longer to accommodate the tach drive.
I did make one out of a couple when I restored the 58.

Do you know what happened to the generator? Often it's just brushes, and you can replace these. Or an internal connection, which can be repaired. If a field coil is open- or short-circuited, something is dramatically fried, or an armature winding is shorted to the body, you can't do much, but these are not so common.

Also, be sure it's really the generator that's bad, not the regulator.
