Accuracy of TRF Wiring Harness to Bently Diagrams

Well, the new wiring harness in "in" but not connected. As I go out this AM with my Bently manual in hand to begin connections, I wonder how well these two are going to disagree. Having re-wired a couple of older cars by the point-to-point method, I've never used a 'store-bought' harness. And I shudder at the thoughts of what could happen if wires were mis-connected.

So far, so good; with the exception of 2 red/red wires to each side of my rear tail lights (and I don't *think* finding the common whould be a great effort), it does not look bad so far.

Trickiest part is sometimes finding the wiring diagram that is right for your car... several changes over the years, some just for the US market, not all manuals show all combinations.

Wiper motors in particular had a significant change... as I recall some were with switched the hot lead, others switched with the ground.

Think about the connections to the front turn-signal/side lamps as I believe one filament in that bulb is brighter and that is the one you want wired for the turn signal (if a '55 has turn signals?).. Same thing in the rear with the brighter filament being the brake light.

Some add an inline fuse to protect the lighting circuits (other than headlamps). TR did this for US cars later in the run but it is a prudent addition to earlier cars (goes behind the center panel).

All that said, I found the harness replacement to be a piece of cake... I used the Moss harness but would expect similar results from the TRF version.

Re: Accuracy of TRF Wiring Harness to Bently Diagr

I had a few unconnected mystery wires in my 71 tr6 and my diagram in the Haynes manual was inaccurate. I found great enlightenment here: https://www.advanceautowire.com Click on "Stock schematics" and there should be a TR2-3 selection. That should help a lot if you run in to any troubles. It did for me.

Re: Accuracy of TRF Wiring Harness to Bently Diagr

I looked at the web link to Advance Auto-Wire and was VERY impressed. When I finally restore my TR3B I want to keep it mostly original, however, I plan on keeping the spin-on-oil filter, and now I'm considering one of these up-grade wiring harnesses. Has anyone out there already installed one in a TR3? Would be interested to hear comments on a TR3 installation.

Thanks,

Don
