Access Panel to Gearbox Dipstick

Hello Again!

Another question.....

Should my '65 BJ8 have an access panel (cut and trimmed out carpet section) in the carpet for access to the gearbox on hump behind console?

Right now my carpet is a solid piece and would require significant effort to peel and hold back.

A local club member has a '66 BJ8 that has a nice panel cut and trimmed out with snaps.

What is correct?

Thanks,
Bob

Moss sells carpet with the cut flap. Originally you had to pull the carpet back and that is why the carpet is attached with these snaps. still a pain especially if you have a period radio.

A much bigger pain if you have a Factory AC unit, BJ8's only, because you have to move the evaporator out of the way, along with the console, to get at the acess plu to check your trans oil.
(I sold my Factory AC a couple of years ago and put ina custom unit).

This is an aftermarket upgrade for better accessibility.

What is correct?--Your solid Piece is as the original.

However, if you take your car to a good upholstery shop they can cut you an access hole it will be cut on three sides only and the remaining side will act as the hinge when closed it is undetectable.

Thanks,
Bob
