accelerator pedal feel

Does anybody know of a way to stiffen the pedal feel on the accelerator? Mine is like mush. I have already replaced the return spring, but it really doesn't help. Any ideas? Thanks.

You just have a lead foot and can't tell the difference between stiff and soft

I'm not exactly a mechanic, but does where the throttle cable meet the carb and butterfly valve have a spring to return it to idle? I can't imagine getting a stiffer one of those would change it much, but that's just a thought.

You're basically stuck with the return spring at the pedal, and the accelerator linkage idle return spring at the carb linkage. The springs are not necessarily designed to be stiff like American car pedals. You can put in stiffer springs, but the design of the pedal box and linkage is best with the standard spring design.

I actually prefer the lighter feel, because it makes it easier to hit a specific point in the pedal travel.

I don't know your car, but if it is a TR6, opt for an early ('69 - '72) accelerator cross shaft spring. It is available from the normal sources. The later years have a weak spring that makes for easy throttle blips, but is tiresome on long trips. The early spring allows you to rest your foot on the pedal without moving the throttle.
