well, what can I say? I'm glad I found this post, as I'm sure it will become a fountain of knowledge in the coming years as I begin the daunting, yet doable task of transforming a very nice 1970 Midget MarkIV into scene stealer.
For a little background, I purchased a 1970 Midget back in August of 1997 for 2000 bucks. it wasn't in bad condition. there were a couple small holes in the top, but the plastic was good. the odometer read a fairly low 45199, and the only apparent rust was on the insides of the chrome bumpers, and the header rails for the top. and the usual surface corrosion on the suspension/drivetrain components. the body is 100% dent free. I absolutely fell in love with this jewel and had to have it, so I saved a couple of months and then I bought it. as far as I know I'm the 3rd owner, but I could be the 4th. the PO only put 90 miles on it and got it as a trade for a boat, but lost intrest in it and it sat in a grage for two years before I boought it. in fact this guys garage was 3/4 of a mile from my house, and it sat there the entire time, and I never knew it was there. it wasn't until he was doing some spring cleaning that he took it out of the garage and I saw it. anyway, the car was originaly British Royal Blue, however, somebody had painted it white. they didn't do a bad job on the painting, but they didn't bother to strip it down and give it a proper paintjob throughout, so the insid eof the car is stil BRB. the interior is ok at best with only a small crack in the dash but the window cranks are shoddy at best and most of the chrome isn't as bright as I would like it. mechanicaly there are a few problems, one it backfires like a fully automatic shotgun. but only if you take you foot off the gas. also the headlight circuit doesn't work, so I could never drive it at night, or inclement weather. also the last time I drove it I kinda hit a curb after hiting a patch of gravel on pavement and I messed something up real good to the degree of where the car pulls really bad to the right, and one of the original wheels was ruined.
well so for the past 8years I've been in the Marine Corps while my little MG has been stored in a storage shed, that costs me about $600 anually to keep out of the rain. its not in a fully environmentaly controled place but at least it doesn't get rained on. and for the last 6 months I've been looking at getting a new vehicle when it dawned on me I've had one for 8 years, that is already costing me money, so why not fix it. the cost would be the same as geting a new car anyway.
well, my current predicament lies in getting the car from middle america Arkansas to southern california, and that is what I am presently working on now, and I have it narrowed down to a few options, and one avenue is awaiting confirmationand I could have it out here by years end. so, hopefully it woun't cost me another thousand just to get it here, which is what most shipping companies are charging right now.
as for the goody list I have a few plans already drawn out, and acouple of vendors that I am looking at right now, so hopefully someone here can kinda sound off as to there experience if any with these companies.
VictoriaBritishLTD. I got their catalog a couple of weeks ago, and my mouth waters with anticipation of some of the things I can get for car, that I didn't think possible, and the prices are really good for most of the parts they sell.
Frontline Spridget. I am definitely getting their whole line of brake, suspension, and drivetrain products. I am really interested in a K-series engine, and if anyone here has one their opion will be very well appreciated.
I'm trying to find the link, but I found a parts distributor right near me in Vista CA that has really good prices. the name eludes me, but they may be very helpful once I get the car here, in getting it up and running.
my wishlist of modifications may freak out some of the purists, but mind you I have had this car in my mind for sometime now, and I can't wait to make this a reality.
shaved door/trunk handles the trunk will have a power actuator to raise and lower it.
roll bar, not that I plan on tossing this thing around a track, but you can never bee too safe.
a 6"round 6in 1 digital instrument from dakota digital. it will be center mounted due to its size.
dvd navigation unit, with a 5inch widescreen to be placed where the original instuments are.
also putting in a DVD/CD headunit, whatever is hot at the time that will be a few years before i get that far.
I also plan on shaving the side marker lights, and if I can't find any suitable inexpesinve units then I will do without. right now I'm looking at lights from RangeRovers, and latemodel VWs as suitable replacements. I plan on parting out anything and everything that can be sold, and either tossing, recycling, or giving away everything else. now that I have found this place I may just give you all first crack at those parts. I've even seen now that the 1275cc engine is in high demand, so if you all are paitient, we may be meeting in face, and tradeing parts. thank you for your time, sorry for the long drawn out first post. I hope some of you got the gist of it. thanks for the forum and I'll keep you all posted once progress is achieved.

this pic was taken just over a year ago. and was the first time she had seen daylight in probably 5 years, notice the cobwebs, and flat tires.
