? about the rear section of the cockpit on a 1966 Sprite MkIII

On the '66 Sprite at the rear of the passenger compartment there are holes that look like some kind of material is supposed to be mounted there. Sort of like what is mounted to the top of the dash and the doors.

None of the online catalogs show it in any detail and usually don't include the 1964-1966 model years anyway.

Anyone know what goes there? It was not present when I purchased the car. :wall:

Here is a picture I found online.

What I am looking for is shown at the bottom of this picture (i.e. nearest the boot) and has some red over spray on the black surface.

Anyone have one of these and willing to sell?

Thanks for any info. :thankyousign:

Paul

I think that is vinyl over aluminum.

Yes, Trevor, it is vinyl over thin foam over an aluminum extrusion. I may have one but without the covering. I'll check Paul.

Kurt.

Thanks for looking Kurt! Covering is NO problem since I am getting the other pieces (door and dash) recovered anyway.

Thanks for the links, Ray! I will have to see why my eBay searches didn't turn up those. :wall:

Sorry Paul, my search was fruitless and now I seem to recall that it went out with a load of aluminum scrap to be smelted. it was bent and ugly anyway. As Bill mentioned, if you get one on E-bay try to get the stud's as well.

I have one in pretty good shape that you are welcome to have if you pay shipping (not going to be too cheap!)
You may notice that there is also welting between the aluminum piece and the body.
