Abarth exhaust??

I've posted this request on the Yahoo MG forum also. I used to have an Abarth exhaust on an older B, have just bought a '67 and it seems that my choices now are either PECO or ANSA. I really loved the sound of the Abarth and would like opinions as to what might sound the most like it.
Thanks,
Mike

I have a Peco exhaust without the headers, and I am pleased with the sound. It doesn't purr like the stainless, dual-pipe system on my 6-cyl Healey, but it has a growl that is easy to enjoy. I find it a comfortable volume at highway speeds, but it's certainly noticeable. I wish I could share sound clips I made of my MG with and without the Peco system, but my mini-disk recorder decided to be difficult and I lost them.

I haven't heard an Ansa nor an Abarth, so I can't compare them.

I didn't know Abarth was still in business. Are they? PJ

I've had to 'settle' for the Ansa system. Not a bad thing. I used to run Stebro systems on all my cars but they're gone. I believe Abarth is too.

No I don't think so. The links and searches all use the past tense (or is that passed tents?) when describing them, and the Abarth website at abarth.com doesn't open. They were sold to Fiat in '71, became their racing arm and are still active as a design/racing team for Fiat, but I don't think theyt have any production facilities. It was a truly great sound and there are still systems available for Fiat, but I suspect they are having them done by an OEM.

AFAIK, Abarth WAS the OEM for Fiat, Alfa and Ferrari. Still is if my info is correct. They look 'generic' instead of the crinkle finish of Abarth in the past.

Leave the model selection as ======= ALL ======= and you get a system that costs USD$395

I think that the Ansa system is closer to the Abarth in sound. The Ansa is a little deeper and quieter. FWIW , the Ansa system on my 71 MGB has at least 200,000 miles on it and is still solid.

Alan, do you have both resonators on your '71, or just the one at the tail?

R.

Rick,
I have the complete system on the '71 with a stock exhaust manifold. It has a nice smooth sound. If you just run the rear section it will not sound the same. I also have run the same system with headers. Still a good sound but not as 'clean'.

Hello,

I like ANSA mainly their header. There is a Co. name Daytona exhaust system that still sell a copy of former Abarth. And also that FASA Co. that represents Abarth but mainly for Italian cars.

Another freeflow exhaust that was a competitor of Abarth in the 70's is Stebro still available on special order, but it is SS now. I have one on my TR6 and it is a great system.

Cheers

Thanks to all for the input. I wrote to Abarth and they are out of the biz since '71 according to the Netherlands office. I wish I could get a sound comparison between the Stebro and the Ansa as they seem to be the more popular, any ss system with 200K on it is sure worth looking into! Thanks for the link LBC.
