Just went up to my local NAPA store, and two of the guys told me that there was a customer in this week that has "some kind of an Austin Healey" that he just wants to give away. It's been in storage for years, and he just wants it gone.
They couldn't remember the model, but said it was "late '40's, early '50's"
Of course, they couldn't find the paper that had all the information on it, and he has an unlisted phone number.
He's a somewhat regular customer, so they promise, (under penalty of great bodily harm), to get the pertinent info, and let me know. Immediately.
Could this be my barn find?
I'm so frustrated I could spit! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Now that I've thought about it, Steve, I doubt if it's really an Austin Healey, being that early of a vintage. Maybe an Austin. I could handle an A35.
Still, it can't hurt to hope! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Okay, only 104 examples of the Silverstone were produced between 1949 and 1950. The 100/4 debuted in 1952. The timelines are right, so it could be.........???

A Healey Silverstone? For FREE? Now, THAT would be a barn find!!!! You have to take a camera.

Me too, Jeff. But there is a little bit of the optimist in me that says, "Maybe!"

I don't know if you knew this, but my "barn find" was an alloy-bodied XK120 roadster. These things happen!

Well, hopefully I'll find out one way or another this coming week. If it's something good, you'll hear me from where you're at!
Jeff

I sincerely hope it's a silk purse and not a sow's ear. My fingers are also crossed for you.

You never know, it might be a Healey - if it's late 40s early 50s that's the right period, and most people when told that a car is a Healey say 'Ah Yes, Austin-Healey' - drives me mad as mine ISN'T an A-H it's a Healey!

It's not unknown for 'real' Healeys to turn up - recently someone found a Sportsmobile in the US, and there were only 25 of those!

If it turns out to be a Healey , and not an A30:-( there are pics here (click 'The Cars' fomr menu) of the various models, and please mail me as the club keep records of all cars, so if it is one that's been lost we'd like to know!

John (not holding my breath, like everyone else I'm expecting a rotting A30 to come out of the barn!)

Of course there are others of that era that it might be - Tickford, Westland and Abbot or even a Mulliner just to name a few, how do you fancy a saloon or a drop head 4 seater?

Best of luck

And Jeff, remember: if it sounds to good to be true . . . /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif

Good luck, Jeff -- hope it turns out to be something interesting.
