Installed the uprated brakes on the TR8 yesterday and today, only to find out that two of the small lines that were supplied came with the wrong fittings. Not too big a deal, as the old ones were OK.

But after bleeding the brakes, I noticed some seepage on the left caliper. Looks like it's coming from the bottom joint between the two halves of the caliper, mainly when the brakes are applied. Will let it sit overnight, and check again tomorrow afternoon. But it looks like I'll be making a phone call to England on Monday.

Just hope I get it sorted out in time for the New Orleans show! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Mickey, don't even think that is an option. You may have to tow it here.
 
Mickey, clean and dry it, then use the talcum powder or foot powder trick to determine precisely where it's leaking from. I'd hate to see you wait for another caliper only to find out it was a bad line or fitting!

I've dried it off a couple of times after pumping the pedal. Each time, the areas around the bleeder and the inlet are dry - just wet at the bottom seam. As I said, I'll give it another go tomorrow.

However, tell me more about the talcum powder trick...
 
Mickey, either use spray foot powder, or talcum powder to coat a clean, dry surface. Any leak shows up as discoloration of the powder at the source of the leak.

Thanks, Jeff - but I think it's pretty much moot at this point. The only area that's wet is at the bottom of the caliper, at the joint between the two halves.

Boy, a set of nice new Wilwood Dynalite II aluminum calipers, new vented rotors, and new custom made billet brackets, shipped from Massachusetts is sounding more and more like a bargain to me. I feel your pain Mickey.
 
Gonna check it again this afternoon, but may have to make a phone call in the wee mornin' hours. Had to call anyway for another matter, so I'm not concerned about that. Just hope there's another one on hand...
 
Why not split the caliper and install a new O ring??? Just match it up to an AC line style o ring, the green ones for r134 are best.

Nope - just bought them, and I'm sure the vendor will make it right. Not gonna mess with it and void any warranty.

I did check it again, and after sitting overnight, there was a little fluid at the seam again, and a new spot on the cardboard I put under it. By chance, I checked to see how tight were the bolts that join the two halves. They were not as snug as the right side, so I torqued them so they would be the same (about 70 ft./lbs.). It improved a little, but still seeping after pumping the brake, so I guess I'll make the call tomorrow morning. Just hope they've another in stock, and I can get this on the road soon!
