I sold the wifes Miata and told the seller I'd install a new Timing Belt since it was past due for one. While it was all apart I decided to go ahead and pop in a new Water pump. You have to have the timing belt off, etc., to change the water pump on a Miata so I figured I may as well do that for the new owner as a courtesy since it was sitting there and easily accessable. Well, I just spend two hours pulling and installing teh new WP and after it wa all buttoned up, I noticed that one of the flange gaskets on the WP, which I had pre-positioned with silicon, had somehow fallen off on the floor and was thus not attached to teh water pump! Now I have to pull it all apart again and start over! Dang, I'm not a happy camper right now!

Bad Luck! Did more or less the same thing with the Jag once, changing the oil seal on the sump. Supposed to place a rubber o ring on the seal, but looked next to the spanner afterwards...... and i was covered in oil /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Those might as wells will get ya!

Sounds like something that I would do. Once when I lived in some apartments I was washing my car in the club house parking lot. There was a really nice looking black car (don't remember what it was exactly) parked next to mine. It looked great but had some splash marks around the wheel wells. So I filled a fresh bucket and gave it a quick wash and dry while I was at it. Wonder if the owner ever noticed?

Anyway - as the saying goes - no good deed goes unpunished.
