GT6 A type OD vs D type - engagement speed?

I have just collected a '68 Mk1 GT6, it has been fully restored within the last few years, including the gearbox & OD. I have owned a few GT6' but never with the D type OD, I am finding the engagement/disengagement quite slow when compared to the A type in my TR6, taking roughly twice as long to go in or out. For those with experience of both systems, is this engagement speed difference normal?

Interesting. I have an A type on my TR4A. It used to engage almost instantly but, this summer it would lag anywhere from 2-5 seconds before engaging. I definitely topped up the tranny fluid this summer but, no change. Curious on ideas.

Now I've been running the car for a couple of weeks I have got used to the slight delay, the engagement/disengagement is consistent and reliable, just slightly slower than the A type I'm used to.
