A few weeks ago my son (a police officer) called while I was changing the brakes on my Tacoma. He said "don't forget the jack stands. You won't believe the calls we get for falling cars and boats." I always use them plus leave the jack in place and put the wheel under the frame. Unfortunatly this is what happens when you don't

Tools inproperly used can kill. I have been an automotive tool dealer for 35 years and twice I had to rescue professional mechanics who were trapped under cars, where the jacks had slipped. Luck played a big part and both guys had only minor injuries. The jack get it up. The jack stand holds it up. Dont be cheap. Good set of stands cost under $40.00.

Hydraulic failure can and usually does occur suddenly... jack stands are your friends!

I've been lucky. Over thirty years of wrenchin' and only a couple times has a jack let go. Always dramatic, and the "what-if"s set in instantly. I always hated working in a "middle bay" too...
gotta watch what two other guys are doing just in case one of 'em gets branefade.

Good friend of mine who raced a Jag XK120 for years in SCCA bought a sports 2000 raced it twice and was pulling the engine using proper stands still the car shifted and fell crushing his head. He was meticulious in everything he did but you can never be careful enough, Even with proper stands I leave the jack set as a backup
