We've all had similar approaches... at least I have. Wonder why they didn't change the runway?

HOLY CARP!!!! Bit of a crab there, likely a bit more training for the left-seater thereafter, methinks. :jester:

I'm impressed by the front gear on that aircraft, too. That was no "normal" landing impact. OUCH.

Ha, at times like that you'd wish that the runway would be on a turntable! Seriously, to me it looks like a slight case of panic! I understand he was a low timer in type and that can be a hinder at times. (To say the least)! I agree that there will probably never be a more stringent test of the nose gear. The Swiss did it right on that one! :excitement: PJ

He needs the crosswind landing gear of a C5 Galaxy. I saw one land at McGuire one time in a pretty good crosswind. Pretty slick! ---- The Aeronca can get that crossed up with only a 15 mph side breeze, but it's going so slow that it's easy to twist back at the last second. By the time the mains touch, it's probably doing under 30 mph and comes to a stop pretty quickly with very little bouncing.

I had a landing very similar to that one time when landing in Colorado Springs. The pilot warned us in might get dicy due to high and gustily, changing winds in the Springs that day. We were crabbing all over the place on approach and the landing was - to put in mildly - interesting! I actually got down on my knees and kissed the ground when we deplaned.
