On a beautiful Top of Utah Saturday, the British Motor Club of Utah (BMCU...shameless plug) had a rare opprotunity. Seems that there's a detachment of British Tornados at Hill AFB training on the range, and our "governor general" made the acquaintence of the Brit's maintenance chief. He offered us the opprotunity to come up for a photo op with their "007" jet. So without further ado...here's a "squadron of Brits"

My apologies for the picture size...I tried to reduce it, and obviously didn't manage to do it.

That was one of the Brit crew members. He was sort of acting as their "official" photographer.

Which sqn was that from? I only ask as my bro is with 609 out of Leeming.

I believe they were from the 8th. The line chief said they were the oldest flying unit in the world; celebrating their 95th anniversary this year.
 
They were fantastic folks -- I got a ride onto the base with Rich (can't ride a motorcycle on base without taking a special class, and this event was too far away for the Tunebug to make). They let us wander around the plane, set up a ladder so we could look into the cockpit, very cool.

Can't remember the squadron number right now, but they said they were the oldest fixed-wing squadron in the world. Nice chaps, a few of them joined us for lunch later on. Got me really motivated to have the car ready for next summer.

On a side note, the green MGB in the photo has a really nicely done V8 conversion. Very fast!
 
My first job was bench testing the inflight software for the Tornado. The team were occasionally invited to visit the RAF squadron that did the software acceptance testing (test pilots if you like). On one ocassion all our names were pulled out of a hat and the lucky winner got a free flight (and a full barf bag by the end of it). Unfortunately it wasn't me!
