The main reason I bought one is because here in the South West there is a relatively high incidence of skin cancer. Where I worked (until recently), there is a skin cancer center on the floor above. I would constantly see people my age coming and going from that place having had major parts of their face, ears, nose, etc., lopped off. Since I like to hike a lot with my camera, I thought it prudent to take some precautions so I looked for a good hat. After some research, I ended up with a Tilley. They are pricy but have a lifetime guarantee and 99% of the reviews online were excellent. The model I bought has a full mesh crown for maximum ventilation while still providing very good sun protection. I had to laugh at part of their guarantee, which reads in part:
"If there is a problem caused by poor workmanship or faulty material, please send your freshly washed garment to us and we'll
repair or replace the garment free - whatever's fair. Exclusions: normal wear and tear and damage caused by misuse or improper care.
Underwear will not be accepted for return or repair."
(They sell more than just hats). So I guess if you rip your nickers, you're out of luck. :wink-new: This is the model I got:
