I was just listening to NPR an hour ago when they discussed the many problems in that country. Over Five Million killed due to the ethnic wars in the Congo....many women and children.
They played a BBC interview of a survivor of one of the many atrocities that are still going on there. It was probably the worst thing I ever heard on the radio.
There are so many innocent people there stuck in a dreadful circumstance.
And it's been like that for years and years. Remember back in the early 60s? I do - I was on a ship carrying U.N. Military vehicles to Matadi in '61. Not a nice place to be by then.
Sometimes I feel a sad hopelessness about Africa. It wasn't so long ago that a President of a country not too far away announced a cure for Aids - some mumbo-jumbo herb and banana mixture he'd dreamed up himself.
