A Mid-Winter's Day Rant

Hi All,
Sorry, I haven't been on line much. Still a busy time of year for me, I'm a private chef, and Valentine's Day is the official end of big party season until Easter, so it'll give me time to concentrate on the car /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

(Official rant for the week: If I have to make one more heart-shaped piece of food, someone will get hurt! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif)

Update on the car:
I had her towed back to the bodyshop on Weds, apparently the "flaw" that the mechanic found, was work "yet to be done" by the bodyshop,...I'll take their word for for it, but I plan on being there 2-3 days a week, rather than one.

Rob: Thanks,..I feel 100% better about the whole thing, now!
I have a plan, and everyone seems to be working WITH me, so I am much happier now! LOL @ Johnny Cash,...just read the lyrics,..too funny!

Dave: Thanks,..[ QUOTE ]
I feel your pain... really. My project is over budget, behind schedule, and for the most part has been constant frustration.

[/ QUOTE ],...I guess you DO understand! It's a much better week, and I have the shop agreed to the end of March as the finish time for the bodywork,..I am feeling like I may be taking her on her first trip, to Canada, for my birthday in May!
[ QUOTE ]
and my girlfriend feels left out of my life because the car takes so much time..

[/ QUOTE ] I guess I'm lucky that I'm single, and my Basset Hound hasn't even noticed the time I spend on the car! lol /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

lawguy: OMG,..you're too funny! lol /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Wayne: Thanks,..I am very lucky, I need to keep that in mind. There are people working very hard for me, and I really do appreciate them. As a matter of fact, I made luch for the whole bodyshop, and am doing the same for mechanic! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif As for the nitwit that sold me the car,..Karma REALLY works,..it'll bite him in the ass some day soon! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

banjo: LOL,..it'll never be finished,..but I would like to get her to the point that I'm driving her, "just visiting" the car has lost it's charm! heeheehee

All for now!

Jerry, I am looking forward to seeing some pics of the "in process" of mounting the front and rear parts you bought from me as well as the finished product which I can add to my collection which I send to prospective customers. Thanks for your business.

I feel your pain, my original plan was to strip my car for paint, cut out some of the rust and get it back on the road in time for spring. Since then I've found poorly repaired swiss cheese floor pans and patched sills with rust inside. So now I'm bascially in a "frame off" (for a unibody car) restoration. I'm about to replace both sills. I'm sure I will be happy when I get it back together, but I sure do get down from time to time.

Hiya Tom,

Since we spoke today, I've been back to the bodyshop.
They will start installation this weekend,..should have some good pictures by next week. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for your help!

Jerry

Hi John,

Man have I been there!
It's never quite the job ya think it's gonna be. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

Best of luck with your work!
It'll look great!

I'm hoping my bodywork will be done soon /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jerry

Thanks Jerry, I talked with my shop today. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

Hi all! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Things are going WELL!

Bodyshop will be done by the end of March.
(I have put the modified bumpers on hold for a while, in the interest of saving time)

Engine is out being rebuilt.

And I applied for a loan today, so I can get this all paid for! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif lol

All for now!

Jerry /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
OK,..I'm not ranting anymore!

I got my loan /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bodyshop is working double-time to get me done.
All of the issues have been addressed (and addressed BEAUTIFULLY!!)

Done in the bodyshop in about 10 days,..then off to the mechanic.

New pics on page 15 of my site /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Cheers,

Jerry /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This may be a little late (or a lot late) as I am a newbie, but I wish I could tell you the horror stories about giving my B to a totally qualified and experienced body shop mechanic who has recently developed a meth. problem. You cannot imagine the frustration I had when I would go back time after time and the car would have had no work done on it. I stupidly paid a good deal of money down to get started on the project, and after MONTHS (nearly four) I finally reclaimed the car incomlete with much left to do on it. The front fenders (new) and the bonnet (new) have 1/2 to 5/8 inch gaps that now have to be remedied, as well as a miriad of smaller problems. But at least the car is home and it's (BR) Green and I have stopped the hemmoraging from my wallet. Similar problems, frustrations, but hopefully good outcomes!

Hiya idahomgman,

Welcome to the forum! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry to hear about your troubles,..that sucks.

I mean there's always complications,..but you expect to find a little more rust than you'd hoped for, another panel that needs replacing,...you don't expect to find your technician in the corner smoking crack. That had to have been hellish. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

(Though, I must confess. I read your post quickly the first time, and thought "Weird,..the poor body guy has a MATH problem,...but why can't he paint?" LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

I hope you've been able to sort it all out.

My project has come full-circle,..installing the interior now, next week she goes to my mechanic to have the engine and tranny done. She'll be ready for May. Just in time! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW Jerry that steel blue color looks awsome on all those nice straight metal work. Great choice. What is the color? Is it stock or custom?

Hiya radford,

Thanks, I really like this blue too.
I had trouble finding a shade I liked in an original MG color, so I went with a Rover color.
It's called Astral Blue Metallic.
