My uncle flew P47's, KIA Sept, 1944 over Holland in the quest for
'a bridge too far'.
 
I spent my teenage years growing up near Lakehurst NAS (where the Hindenburg crashed).

When we were kids, we'd wave at the Navy guys flying overhead in the blimps out of Lakehurst. They'd wave back.

These days, my Dad lives down the road from the Navy base. He can see the huge blimp Hanger #1 if he walks down the road a little bit.
 
Used to see blimps a lot in the early 50's when I lived at Jax Beach, FL. They were flying out of Jax Navel Air or the Mayport carrier basin.

There was also everything else the Navy was flying going up and down the beach.
Our house was a 2 story on the beach front (front row), and I could sit on the upstairs porch and be on a eye level with the pilots as the flew by.

The U.S. was also training the Pakistani Air Force there, using P51's.
