I'm trying to remove the head. I have taken off the 10 nuts and washers and it won't move. I've whacked it with my shot hammer - doesn't leave marks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif but it still doesn't move. ideas?
Wedge, screw driver or such between the head and the block in several places. Some one gooped that head gasket maybe or just old age. It grew in place /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
Or you can try the old rope trick. Run the crank around so that # 2 and #3 pistons are down a bit in the bores. Now feed some small diameter nylon rope into the cylinders through the spark plug holes. Turn the crank with a wrench and the pistons should push the head up. A common problem with the 1500's is that the studs will rust to the holes in the head. See if you can remove the studs. Some PB Blaster or such around the studs may help.

Thanks I got it. I used the screwdriver/ hammer method as I realized the arms on the engine stand don't allow me to rotate the engine. They bind the flywheel - go figure. (does anyone have a pic of their engine (with flywheel) on the stand - I might be doing it wrong) Anyway, it's off and most everything else is off, BUT does anyone know what size the nut is for the pulley on the crankshaft? I need to change the timimg chain.
TIA
JP
