A haunting piece of music

It's always struck me as an OLD piece, but it's relatively new. It was magical when Burns paired it with the Sullivan Baloo letter home to his wife, Sarah.
A friend plays it on the cello (where it works nicely).
 
I've always liked that piece.
 
We play that at our old time jam here in Townsend. Gorgeous tune.
