A Flight Of Fancy: RHD Conversion

Yes. All the basic holes and other features are there (ie-there's a blanking plate where the RHD pedal box goes)..
It's fairly common for UK specialists to re-import US cars to the homeland and convert them (many cars from the American west are less rusty than UK cars).

For the average US owner, is it worth it? Probably not.

It's a ton of work to make a car "different" but not really "better".

Probably just cheaper to buy a nice MGB that is already RHD even if you had to ship it from the UK.

Disclaimer: I'm doing a RHD conversion on my A-35 right now but it's a vintage racer and I want to put the driver on right side for better balance. Plus I'm converting to rack-and-pinion. My car is gutted so there is no fiddley bits in the interior to deal with.

Early mgbs were easier to convert than the later cars. The vertical part of the firewall that the steering shaft goes thru is not going to work. Up to 67 for sure it was just a matter of obtaining the correct RHD bits. Later cars are not that easy. Bob

I've converted 3 Minis to RHD to date and they were super easy. I thought I should ask in case there was a "oh super easy all you need is buy part #234 and Bobs's yer Unkle" - lol.

That steering box thingie at the firewall looks the most daunting.

Not as easy on a '77 as on earlier models...early cars have rubber grommets in the holes needed for RHD components...later cars don't have the holes cut.

I'm in process of doing one on a '63...make sure you have all the components (little ones like different steering column cowl, different accelerator & cable, brackets for running cables differently, etc.)

But, yep, it can be done.

Interesting. So it's technically possible just going to take a more hardy approach.

So has anyone done a 77 before and can share trials and jubilation?
