Hello everyone. My name's Eddy, I'm an expat Brit now living in the beautiful Greek island of Cyprus. I have two old British cars here, and a modern Japanese pickup disguised with a British name. When I work out how to post pics I will, don't worry!

The truck is a Vauxhall Brava, aka Isuzu KB, also aka Chevy LUV. 2.5 turbo diesel, crew-cab, not very exciting, except that much to my surprise my wife likes driving it!

The cars, ah now, this is what we come here for. Soon after we moved here and bought the truck (we're still pretty new on the island) I found on the internet a 1971 Ford Capri 1600GT. It was only an hour away, so I went to see it, and the rest is history. It's a beautiful car, having been restored and lightly customised about 12 years ago by the previous owner, who had it 35 years! I joined my local club, of course (www.paphoscvc.com) and take it to the events.

At one of these I found myself talking to another expat who said he wanted to find a good home for an old car he had lying around. As soon as he said what car it was, I was hooked. I am now the owner of a restoration project, a 1966 Austin A40 Farina Countryman. One of my first cars was an A40, way back in the 70s, so as I restore this I'll be upgrading it in ways I might have done then, if I'd had the money and skills that I have now. Progress can be followed on www.a40farinaclub.co.uk and I expect I'll post reports on here too.

I have a LONG and varied history of old British and European cars, with a handful of Japs and a generous helping of American iron thrown in, so I'm looking forward to sharing with you guys.

Welcome!

I work with a guy from Cyprus (and I presently have one student from that island as well).
I can't figure out what either of them is doing in New Jersey!

~My First Car~ was an A40 (Devon).
I was also born in England but have lived in the USA so long I'm pretty well disguised as a native.

I have actually looked at the Farina club website before.
I own an A35 that I'm building for vintage racing and there's some interesting stuff on the "big Austin" website.
I'm a member of the A30/A35 Owners Club:

Here's ~My A35~ as it is right now.

I had one of those Capris ages ago (with a 2.0 engine). Nice car. We have ~One~ that races with us.

You have a nice group of autos.,
Looking forward to all of the different pics.
Welcome aboard

Thanks guys!

Nial, I looked at your pics in those links, excellent! What part of GB were you born in? My mother often told me, we had one of those Austins when I was a baby and when my sister was born my Dad tried to trade it for a bigger car. He made the mistake of taking me along; I wouldn't leave the Austin! He had to bring it home, followed by someone from the garage who took away the Austin when I wasn't looking. I was only 2...

Welcome....I'm looking forward to your photos....I have a MkIV Farina Magnette.

I was born in Leeds. But most of my relatives are in Ireland or the London area. We visited in Ireland 10 years ago (I also lived in Kilkenny as a kid).....but I would love to take a tour of England. Retirement isn't too far away, so hopefully will be able to visit soon. Actually, the Mediteranean area looks like a great place to visit too.

We have a good number of US-living Brit ex-pats here at BCF (Steve, BAZ, GB1, ecurrie eccossie, + others).

And I think one of our Florida members ("bugimike")had a Dad than ran the Rally of the Acropolis.

I'm from the "other side:" Southport. I have relatives in Ireland (my late father was a Dubliner) and know Leeds well enough to navigate through it.

If you want any help with your itinerary, come to me, it'll be a pleasure!

Welcome to the forum, Eddy!
I never made it to Cyprus, but spent a year as a site commander on the island of Levkas, one of the ionian islands (on the west coast, right next to Scorpios). Greece was a lovely place! I hope I can go back some day!

PS: I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think you are the only member from Cyprus we have on BCF!

Welcome indeed, for another ex-pat Brit that Nial didn't mention.
I got to Cyprus many years ago, 1964 to be exact, but that was to Famagusta, which I understand is now a ghost town, with some things frozen as they were in 1974.
My son's father-in-law (or if you will, the other grandfather of 2 of our grandchildren) lives near Nicosia and some day I'm sure we'll go and visit him.
I know Southport pretty well at one time - I lived on Merseyside for 13 years (the Wirral) and married a girl from Wallasey.

Hi Eddy,

I was just driving thru and wanted to wish yourself a warm "Welcome" as well.

Have Fun Here as I`m sure You will.

Regards, Russ

Hi Eddy, and welcome to the Forum!! :savewave:

Welcome, Eddy!

Glad ya found this place. Plenty of experience in here, you seem to be one to contribute to th' "pool".

....and I married a lass born in Oldham...

Thanks for the welcome, guys!

Roger: you're correct about Famagusta, it's just over the border and in fact you can go on trips to see it. They do refer to it as the ghost town! And guess what? I married a Wallasey girl too!

Clearly a man of exquisite taste! Did she go to Wallasey High School as well, by any chance?

Sorry Roger, her family upped and moved to Formby when she was 8. Now her sister lives in Wales and she lives in Cyprus. Once upon a time you were adventuring if you married a girl from three streets away!

Tell me about it! I'm originally from a farming village in Gloucestershire, so marrying a girl all that way north was quite an issue 45 years ago!
