A Duh question

I seems I never put the bottom tranny mount bolts in. Could not figure what size and I could find nothing in my stash that seemed to fit.

That just maybe the cause of my clutch judder, maybe.

So what the heck size bolts goes in there? Everything I have is either too big or too small in diameter.

Does anyone have a couple that they know fit?

Hi Jack,

Something right in the middle should fit just right, then. Just like Goldilocks and the porridge.

Sorry, couldn't resist. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Yep. All is lined up just fine. Just seems to be something I don't have in my stash.

Jack, search the archives...I think Chris pulled one and measured it. Mine have tapered ends that make them easier to start.

The bolts are 3/8-24 UNF. I don't remember the length but it is about 3 1/2" I think.
Bill

I still have the ones I pulled, do a search or wait for me to re-measure them tonight. They are definitely 3/8-24 a Bill said. I think you need to loosen the tunnel bolts and move the mount around Jack. There isn't much room for mis-alignment.

I do have a set of 3/8th, fine thread 3 1/4 long. Thought it could not be them. Golly only knows where they came from, not this car.

I tapered the ends after my first several trys and had no joy. I did loosen the tunnel bolts to get it aligned, used a philips screw driver. The darn things just won't go in.

Understand the racer guys do not use these bolts but thought it might have something to do with my clutch judder.

Oh well, when the engine is out I will see what is what for sure.

Is 24 pitch fine or course?? The bolts I have are fine thread.

24 pitch is fine thread, Jack. The only time I know of when us racer guys don't use those bolts is when we change over to a different type of transmission mount. Otherwise, we use them, or the tranny hops all over the place.
Jeff

Ahh, the light begins to dawn. Yep counted half inch of threads, got the 24s 3 1/4 long, now if I can just get them in.

Bet that will solve my clutch judder otherwise known as transmission hop.

Thanks Jeff, needed to talk it out a bit.

Jack those are one of the many minor aggravations found on Sprites!! I have put them in and had them line up perfectly and go in like a knife through hot butter one time, and then on the next engine haul-out I have had to struggle like mad just to get them started!! Does anyone have a special "trick" for these buggers?
