Playing a gig last Friday and I had a great experience I had to share. Was playing (bass) with a jazz group when a friend of our regular drummer got up to play a song with us. That friend: Danny Seraphine!

Just one tune, but what a joy to trade fours with a tremendous musician. Very nice guy as well. Only time I've ever played with someone that is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Very bad photo lifted from a quick video of the evening.

Very cool! When I owned a printing company I was sent a job (through a dealer) from a very well known person in the aviation industry.
Despite multiple attempts to get paid from the dealer I had no luck. Since I had the customers phone number I called this famous person and asked if there was a problem with his order. He told me he was very satisfied with his purchase and told me he was going to call the dealer. I was paid soon thereafter.
I was very proud to be able to produce a product for this icon.
I’m sure you were on cloud 9 playing with Danny.

Drew- can you share a video?

Wow, what a great experience that must have been! Chicago is one of my favorites! Congratulations on a great experience and a lifetime memory.

I've become a real Chicago fan in recent years. As a teen in the 1980s they were soft rock ballads. A few years ago, through my friends connection to Danny, I motivated to go back through their early catalog. What great music.

Side note, even without the sound on in that video, you can tell Danny is a really good musician. He's playing a simple song in a restaurant for a few minutes with people he will likely never see again, and he's fully engaged. He's watching Scott on the keys when he's playing and reacting, and doing the same with me on bass. Even in this situation he's fully connecting.

Listening to each other and responding.

That's what jazz is.

Well done! and thanks for the video.

What a ride, Drew! I'm jealous!

I always love it when musicians get to play along with
legends like that.At least you have talent.
I got to sing along with Jimmy Buffett.Unfortunately,
this was while listening to a Youtube video.
