A Bee-utiful weekend so far.

Friday night was the local elementary school spelling bee. Last week my daughter didn't want to be part of it, Friday night she won it. I was very proud. We went out for ice cream, then headed home.
When we got home I went inside, flipped on the light, and the ceiling was alive!!!! There was probably 60 or so honey bees buzzing around the ceiling! more in the dining room, lots more upstairs, GYAAAA! It was quarter of 9 so the only thing I could think of was to fly over to the auto parts store and get a couple cans of brake parts cleaner (that stuff knocks 'em down quick) But on the drive there I got some inspiration. Shop-vac!
I sucked those guys up for over an hour. musta sucked up a couple hundred.
By divine intervention we were able to get a hold of a friend who is a bee-keeper. He came over this morning with all his gear and we pulled off the wall where the bees were thought to be. After destroying my shower we determined that they hadn't been there long enough to get established. So I caulked and Great-Stuffed every crack and gap I could find.
Tonight, no bees. Whew! but the house still has this smokey odor...hehehehe. Dot says it's "honey BBQ" flavor smoke.
SO now I get to remodel the bathroom on my "weekend"
Thank God for how it all worked out. It could have been MUCH worse.

sounds like quite an adventure - we had a similar situation with yellow jackets once, fortunately in a drop ceiling so removal wasn't an issue. sucked them up with the shop vac and then shot half a can of bee killer into the shop vac hose - it still smells of it when I use it - 15 years later.

To bad for the bees.
Honey bee population is really getting hit hard.

Ben,

Yours sounds like ours (on a different level).
The Wife decided to go vinyl siding. We need to refinance,
but they won't approve it as-is.
We had the house done,& need to get the garage done.
It's been raining off-&-on.And then there's the car projects
that I need to get done.

banjo, "life long supply of honey"!... dats da first prize gift ya get fa winnin a spellin "BEE"... :jester:
Heehehehe.. that's what I was thinkin. She's the "queen Bee" now they all followed her.
Well, no bees in the house last night. We actually went after them through an interior wall because of the placement on the second floor, and behind the chimney. I needed to remodel the shower area anyhow, and I've been putting it off, so I cleared out the bathroom, we opened the window, and pulled off the drywall, and ...no bees.
I felt good and bad at the same time. I was hoping to give my friend a new colony of bees for his hobby, but I was very glad they had not caused any major problems in the house. We used my video bore scope to check out all the other areas around where they were coming in. Nothing.
Now I'm off to get a new shower surround, plumbing parts, sheetrock, insulation, cualk and paint.
Thankfully I don't need to redo any siding outside.

When you're done there, Ben, I have another li'l project for ya here... tub removal, re-plumb and put in a shower pan, tile the stall, build new cabinetry for the sink and vanity, finish it all out. Should take two days.

Gotta get here on yer own, but: Free CABs! :smirk:

If you can wait till October. The missus and Dot have big plans to stay with my aunt Barb in Orlando and visit the kingdom of the big black rat. I wondered out loud how far from Da hovel we would be, there was folks I'd love to meet in person.
Elmira-Corning Regional airport offers 1 way tickets to Orlando on Thursdays and Sundays for $80. Same going the other way.(Ever think about coming to Watkins in Sept. for the vintage fest?)
As for our bathroom. it's quickly snowballing! First it was replace the backsplash. now I'm putting in new tub fixtures, moving the sink, re-doing the floor, painting, replacing the vanity and possibly the lights........
Anyone?!?!?!?.. I'll spring for CAB.hehehehe

I'd love to come, Ben, but it's too much of a drive to Orlando for those $80 tickets.....

And, of course, the drive back.

Ben,

I hate you for saying that!
We just flew to Virginia - $580+ for
the Granddaughter's ticket.
I'd say "Do it".Doc's not far away.
Just be sure to get the "password" before
you try to get by the guards.....

I-4 traffic is the deciding factor for the run from O-town to here. Normally an hour and a bit.

We'll work out th' password and details as the time goes on.

Little over an hour drive?! that's not bad at all. We're gonna have to work something out...
Oh yea... This is gonna be good.

Well... Back to work tomorrow. I'm on a Tuesday thru Saturday schedule right now. I spent all day, and wayyy too much money, but the new shower is in . And I needed it! Swapped from the clunky old single knob to two handles. I like it much better. Just some finishing touches tomorrow, and good as new.
I'm bushed.
