90 XJS Windshield Wiper Won't Shut Off

This one has me baffled.

I started having a problem that if the wiper switch (stalk on r/h side of steering column) was bumped, the wipers ran at low speed and would not stop until the car was turned off regardless of stalk position.

I replaced the switch/stalk, which is a single year model. 91 has a different p/n. and 89 has the same style stalk and directional lever as in the XJ6 Series III?

Problem was not cured by replacing the stalk/switch.

I next replaced the wiper logic module which is a double relay box with two connectors attached, is black in color, is mounted above the cruise control module up under the auxilliary fuse panel kick panel under the glove box. P/N is DAC6534.

It is different from the blue logic box for earlier wipers.

I replaced it with a used module. New ones are not available.

The problem did not go away.

Is there a Park Switch on the Wiper Motor? What does it look like and how does one check or adjust it?

Anyone have another idea?

Remove the motor and replace the park switch. You have to pull motor thru the vent in cowl and park switch will be in housing. Look at schematics as XKSUnlimited www.XKS.com, they have it on web site. OR any Jag repair manual, as most Jag wipers have this switch.

I went through a similar problem with my 93 XJS. The motor had failed due to the drains in the wiper compartment being plugged. After repairing the motor, the same problem that you have appeared. The park switch on the wiper does have a small bit of adjustment. That small adjustment did the trick!

The problem was with the park switch. I will try to post a photo.

Remove the motor from the car. Remove it from the grill. The switch is inside the gearbox. It mounts in a black plastic bracket that is secured by one screw and washer. Evidently, over time the plastic bracket wears and the switch no longer engages the cam it rides on. Adjust the switch to make better contact. I wedged a round toothpick between the wheel box and the switch bracket and used some silicone RTV to "glue" the tooth pick in place. Make sure to mark the lever position on the splines before opening the gearbox. It took me quite a while to get the lever back in the proper place so that the blades parked at the right place.

Congrats on the repair!

I have attached a photo of the park switch. This may help in figuring out where it is located on the wiper motor.
