90 XJS Antilock Brakes Question

I have a 90 XJS conv., 5.3 liter V-12.

The car has the Teves Anti Lock Brakes.

When I first step on the brakes, I get a Red Brake warning light and an Amber Antilock light. If I pump the brakes, It only happens with the initial pedal input.

Brakes seem to work fine.

Step on the brakes again and the cycle repeats.

I have bled both front and rear brakes twice now. The problem persists.

When you turn on the ignition, pump cycles and shuts off normally.

Any thoughts?

Switch on the ignition. Let the pump run it's cycle. Then hit the brakes. You should get 5 pumps minimum before the lights come on. If not, the accumulator ball has lost it's charge. Easy enough to change. I generally use an oil filter wrench to brake it loose. Caution!! Make sure the system is totally depressurised. Turn off key and pump until the pedal gets hard. Even then, wrap a rag around the joint between the ball and the pump body. The accumulator has brake fluid under pressure and it can spray all over. Pumping the system down usually prevents disasters, but a little planning goes a long way.

I did jessebogan's test. I ordered a new accumulator. Installed it. Problem solved.

Part lists from Jaguar at over $900? I got one from XKs Unlimited for $350 including shipment.

Oh how I miss the days of a strong US Dollar!
