90 XJS and 87 XJ6 Trip Computer Problem

About two months ago the trip computer in both my 90 XJS 5.3l and 87 XJ6 Series III started to act up. Neither clock will hold time and on either a cold or a damp rainy morning I get 8.8:8.8 on the digital readout and the time button flickers. Both started acting up about one week apart.

Ideas anyone? Weird that both are acting the same, one for a V-12 and one for the Inline 6 with the exact same symptom.
 
Lemme know when you find the answer....my '87's trip computer does whacky things also...clock holds time but I can't set anything & no matter how much I drive, my gas mileage is 17.4....but, several of my buttons don't do what they're supposed to.
 
Pry the unit out of the dash and unplug it. Then plug it back in with the ignition on. Should work.
