I posted about buying a 69 GT6+ in the introduction thread in August, last year. In the last 9 months I’ve done quite a bit but it still seems like a drop in the bucket considering what needs done and that 9 months have passed by already. I’ve freed up the engine, and ZS carbs rebuilt. Fuel system cleaned and supply lines replaced. The engine runs as well as one would expect, considering that it was frozen up and not run in 47 years. It runs well but certainly needs freshened up. The brakes, and suspension have all been gone through. Rotoflex axles and all bearings, front and rear replaced. Complete brake system rebuilt. Rebuilt the heater box and controls. Gone through the gauges and am in the middle of refinishing the dash wood.
I have actually drove it and could stop it in the driveway!!! Major milestone.
The most recent updates are— It’s on the rotisserie!! I pulled the body in maybe November. It was gutted to a bare shell except for the windshield. I’ve since replaced the heel board crossmember and heel board. Replaced the left lower A post and sectioned the lower L B post. Replaced the left full floor pan, left inner sill, strengthener, and full outer L sill. Cut out rust and holes in the floor between the heel board and boot floor and welded in new 20 GA. sheetmetal. Now I’m in the process of welding in the R full floor and same sill structures as the left side. Once that’s done and the tunnel is reinstalled and welded up, the next area to replace is the full rear valance. I’m still sitting the fence weather to repair the 1/4’s with repair panels or just bite the bull it and put full 1/4’s on it. There are a few little spots on the left front fender that will need patched and that ought to take care of the rust situation. After all patching is done I’ll get it media blasted to even it out and see if there is anything I missed. Then get it in epoxy primer.
Once it’s in primer is on to freshening up the drivetrain. Hopefully everything just needs cleaned and everything resealed but we’ll see what shows up. I’m sure it won’t be that easy or inexpensive!!!
It was suggested I post my progress in the Triumph section, so here it is.
