I see Moss has the 89mm set on sale for $695.99. Are these good quality and worth the price?
Thanks, Rut

I think Moss is a good source as is TRF and the other notables that LBC owners use. I bought my 89mm piston and liner set from British Frame and Engine.

I Have the 89mm piston and liner set in my TR3. It is hard to tell how much of a difference they make. If your old 87mm are in good shape I would save the $700 bucks. There is always other things to spend money on.

Dorn,

I've sent three replies to your PM - not sure if any of them went through.

I've got to rebuild the engine and I really don't know if the 89mm over the 87mm will make that much difference. The 87mm kit is under $400 and the 89mm kit is almost $700...$300 toward a cam instead?

Do the 89mm have a slight tendency to overheating (or at least less effective cooling)? I really do not know - just have a vague memory of having read that here reinforced by the notion that less mass around the cylinder might cause that.

I am about to pull the engine this fall and repair a terrible rear seal leak (I unfortunately converted to a lip seal years ago). My engine has 87mm pistons, lightened stock rods and a shaved head, thinking about heating it up a bit with a 270 cam. But my first concern before doing any additional performance work would be doing something about the crankshaft, a fifty year old part with a know history breaking.
