Spitfire 85 fiero radiator into a spitfire

hi guys, i found a link on the net about using the fiero rad. into the spitfire.
Has anybody actualy tried it before?

No problem, yet. But I saw the link and would like to keep my options open, it might be cheaper fpr me to install a new Fiero rad, than one from the leading suppliers.
Have a rebuilt 1500 eng that has been sitting for to long and will try to install the engine this weekend.

The entry on the 'substitute parts' list on triumphspitfire.com said that he had to modify the frame brackets to get it work and then use plastic zip ties on the top. Seems a shame to do that to save, what, $75? (Rockauto lists a Fiero radiator at $95, and VB has a Spitfire one for $169). Personally, I'd take my old one to a reputable local radiator shop and have them test it and/or re-core it. Probably more money than buying new, but you know what you're putting in is good.
 
yes sir, you are correct sir,
my thought pattern here is to take a couple of my used left overs, have them checked, use the worse one for the frame brackets, and run with the fiero rad
until the originals come back. if it works then i still got some spares when they get recored.
was just thinking about the p.in the a. factor.

No idea about Minnesota, but my radiator guy could do a recore in less than one day. I can't imagine going to the trouble of making a temporary solution for less than one day of driving??????
 
Do it right, if you cant afford the part now, save up until you can. The original cooling system works quite well. Why bother cutting the frame and messing with the metal, etc.

Parts from different cars do work great sometimes. For example, I have a TR4A. I was having a heck of a time getting the plastic gearbox tunnel back on the car because of the right angle drive. I realized that if I cut out part of it and slap a TR6 gearbox access plate on there, it would fix the problem!

With overdrive, the TR4A and TR6 should both have the same tunnel configuration with a cover plate on both sides (one for solenoid access and one for speedometer cable access). You can see this in the TR4A SPC under the overdrive option (Plate BH).
