Anyone have any experience with these? Got offered one for $450 today. Nice body, no rust. Needs a new top and tires. Guy says he thinks the fuel pump is weak. Opinions please.

Member Spitspot owns one, he has it tuned and has installed racing suspension, has a blast with it! Umpteen thousand miles on it, he loves the car.

They are easy to wrench on, parts are available easily, they are tuneable, great little cars. If I were in your position I would take the plunge.
 
Counter offer for a few bucks less. Get her running and have fun with it. I had a 79 with a ton or miles on it and it was a blast.

Tops are expensive on Cabrios.So are CIS injection problems. Parts are everywhere, cars are great fun. Most GTI parts fit... It's cheap, why not? If it doesen't work out, part it out on Ebay.

They're a great car if they're running right. Fuel pumps aren't nearly as costly as they were when the things came out, either. There's a "lift pump" in the tank that still baffles folks. A good shop manual and some time, the things will run forever.
 
Tons of fun, and great mileage too! the wifey always wanted one. I think thier neat.
