MGB '79 MGB skipping after about 35-40 miles of drivin

'79 MGB skipping after about 35-40 miles of driving. I have tested this 3 times this past week.

The car starts fine and runs strong, but after about 35 miles it starts to skip. So far it has not died on me, just skips.

I have read about the gas tank not venting and building up a vacuum, so today as I test drove it and it started to skip I stopped and took off the gas cap. I heard the air rush in and thought great that was what the problem was. I left the cap off and headed for home, however there was no improvement in the way it was running - still skipped. In the morning when I start it, it will run fine.

I am creating a vacuum in the tank, because I hear the whoosh of air when I remove the cap, but that must not be the main problem, because it does not clear the problem when I release the vacuum.

There must be something else that is causing the problem, could it be the coil or something else breaking down when it been running for an hour or so.

I just put new plugs, rotor and cap and wires on it 2 weeks ago. I have a webber DGEV carb and that had a rebuild kit put in it at the same time.

I know I have to resolve the venting problem for the gas tank, which I will work on tomorrow, but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

"skipping".....?

As in 'missing'?

Is there any sign of antifreeze running down the side of the block on the distributor side?

No

Skipping or missing, not sure which term to use.

bingo, sounds like it was tired.

Easy enough repair!
