79 Clutch Midget 1500 eng.

Does anyone know where I can get a HD release bearing i.e. roller bearing instead of that gawd awful carbon one that VB and Moss sells. I heard a clunk when I pushed the clutch in and felt no resistance whatsoever. This entire clutch has only about 5000 mi on it(new slave) I figure the release bearing "went south" So I would like to replace it with a roller bearing type. Right now the clutch isnt working and looks like the engine will have to be pulled again. I'm just guessing its the release bearing but if it is'nt, would like to replace it anyhow.. When you push the clutch pedal in you feel no resistance at all. I heard something break when I pushed the pedal in and then nothing.
Thanks ahead of time.

Don, the throwout bearing on a 1500 should be a ball or roller bearing type. All of my 1500's (Spitfires) had that style, and it's the same bearing used on the 1500 Midgets. The carbon bearings were only used on the "A" series engine cars.
Maybe you snapped a pivot pin.

Hmmm, did not know that Jeff. Guess I'll find out when I pull the engine. Thats interesting I thought for sure it was carbon. Oh well back to the drawing board !
Thanks

Don, grab the release arm and see if there is excessive play in it. Check and make sure that the slave cylinder didn't move in the housing.

Don, I'd be looking at 16, 17, 18, & 21.

Jeff, you are correct sir (a little Ed McMahon) the throwout bearing is ball bearing..My trouble (as seen on a different post) was a disconnected slave hyd hose.AARRGG, oh yes I pulled the engine and discovered it. Man am I embarrassed.. If only I'd have looked up I would have seen it hanging there. But who would have guessed a disconnected hyd. hose.
Egg on my face Don M
