MGB 78 MGB Trunk Seal

Just got a 78 MGB to keep my 74 Midget company on cold desert nights. Car has been repainted nicely. But came to me with no seal around the lip inside the trunk (boot, for your purists). Ordered one from V-B, but when I put the seal on, the trunk does not want to close. Not enough clearance. Is there an adjustment on the hinges? Any other ideas? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

If you find out let me know. I changed the one on mine and the same ting happend. Had to remove part of it for it to close.

I can't remeber exactly haow it is but I believe that the bottom latch(the hook like part attached to the body) should have some sort of up-down adjustment...someone correst me if I am wrong but isn't their just two bolts that you loosen in order to slide it up a little?

The trunk latch is held by 2 bolts, inside above the license plate. Loosen them and slide the inverted U-shaped thingy up a bit. The trunk lid can also be shimmed under the hinge bolts to raise the leading edge but be careful not to ruin the panel fit. The new seal will compress over time once you get the lid to latch.

That is pure Victoria British..the part does not fit.
Try another source of supply.

Ah good! I'm not the only one who has ordered from VB and gotten parts that don't fit. I got my trunk lip seal from Moss. Fits perfectly /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif.

I had a very bad experience with leaf springs with the incorrect damping.
