MGB 77 MGB Heat Shield

This car was fitted by the PO with the Monza exhaust system. I see there is no heat shield between the header and carb. Is this the norm? Does anyone make a heat shield for this situation? Thanks
 
It would be a very good idea to re-install the heat shield. it really goes a long way to help the carb do its job. and the cooler you can keep the fuel, the better.
This goes double if the car still has the cat. or an aftermarket header, or both
 
What type of carb are you running? The ZS or has it been fitted with a weber? If it has a downdraft weber, no heat sheild is needed. But if you have the original ZS or even SU's get the heatshild. I believe Moss sells them or pick one up used on Ebay.
 
It has the weber downdraft. Sorry I didnt point that out. Then I can assume I dont need the heat shield? Sounds good to me as long as its not a safety issue.
 
With the down draft weber it's not needed. You should be good to go!
 
How does the Monza sound? I have a 77 and been thinking about it. I work night, so I am looking for a mellow note without too much volume, or the neighbors will lynch me for coming home for lunch at 1am.
 
Monzas tend to be a little bratty in the volume dept. I personally like them, but it may be a bit much for 1 A.M.
 
The Monza is a bit on the edge for me. Especially if you consider the cost. I also had the system on my TR-7 but it had leaks and had to go. If its a tight system, then it is not to loud. My tastes are for the conventional muffler system. To each his own.
