TR6 '76 TR6 condensor?

I am about to install a Lucas Sport coil on the TR6, the old coil (blue), had a metal and plastic, blue condensor on one side of the coil, grounded to the coil mount bolt. Question IS, I want to replace this condensor also, is this needed for the Sport coil? I am more of a AHealey guy, and our condensors are mounted/grounded to the dizzy. HELP/advice......thanks

Was it connected to the point side of the coil, or the hot side?

Normally, a TR6 would have the condenser for the points mounted inside the distributor, but folks do sometimes relocate them to the side of the coil.

However, some folks also install noise suppression condensers on the side of the coil (to reduce noise in the radio).

To answer your question, you need to figure out which you have. There must be a condenser across the points for the engine to run; noise suppression is strictly optional (since most did not have it).
 
I had one of those on my 74 TR6 too. I think it was a noise suppressor as Randall suggests. (There was also a condensor inside the distributor.) When I installed my electronic ignition, I took it off. I haven't had any problems to date... well, not related to that anyway.
 
They do help in some circumstances. Whether anyone cares about those circumstances is another question!

Only place I could ever tell the difference was trying to listen to a very weak AM or CB station out in the country. Any major city will have so much noise that it makes no difference. Probably also has something to do with the quality of your radio; those old radios were not much good at rejecting noise of any sort.

But I've not tried to listen to AM or CB in many years, so YMMV. Last time I tried to hook up a CB radio (around 1980?), the noise from the generator was more trouble than the coil (so I installed a similar capacitor on the generator output).
