76 Midget 1500 Oil filter

I have a 1976 Midget with the `1500 engine (I think) and need to change the oil filter. It had a UNIPART GFE 4 filter on it, but when I go to NAPA and Autozone the filter they list for the car does not fit? The screw in part is too big? Can't find a cross reference for the GFE 4 filter? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ........Alvin

and you're certain it's a GFE 4? I cannot find any reference to a number for GFE that low.

Yes, here it is. I could not find any reference to it either.

Found this list for 1500 Midgets from Paul Teglerizer: long since dead link

Oil Filters to use: Pure One filter, the number model is PL10017, if you're interested. Other filters that might be used are

a.AC-Delco PF-53 (will work on all models of Spit.), PF-13 - requires an adapter
b.Carquest 85084 (said to be a Wix product)
c.Castrol PH922A (all Fram numbers should be same on Castrol filters)
d.Champion D102 (though not recommended)
e.Crossland 573, 595
f.Fram PH2825, PH922A, PH966B, PH16 -may be too large for later 1500's w/air pump
g.Fram PH8A (large can) using the oil filter adapter from MkI 1147 engines, (or non airpump 1500's?)
h.Motorcraft FL-2005, FL-1 (large- non-Air pump Spits only)
i.NAPA 551312 , Gold-1521, Gold 1374
j.Purolator #L10017, PER-1
k.UNIPART GFE150, GFE119

"that filter thing threw me at first too, been a few years, but I remember. Napa, AutoZone, O'Reilly's and others have an adapter fitting for the filter to screw on to. You ought to ask about it next time. It is just more convenient to be able to pick up your oil and filter at a local parts store."

Well, I finally found out what to do. I could not find a match for my filter. None of the filters on the previous lists were carried by the big 4 parts stores and I did not want to special order it only to find it did not fit. Kept searching and finally found out that RockAuto listed the "adapter" to be used (WIX 24037). O'Reilly carry's the adapter. It allows a standard filter (Bosch 3422 + many other equivalents) to be used. Problem solved. Thanks for everyone's input.

Glad to hear you found an easy solution.
