TR6 '74 TR6 Sun visors flop -- any cures?

Rebuilding my wind screen and appurtenances.

Installed new sun visors. They are suffering from a
condition known as flopitis. This is where the sun
visors flop up and/or down rather easily; too easlily
such that they will not stay well in place when you move
them up or down.

All new parts. Parts catalog does not show something I
don't have. The visor slides right down onto the long
spindle and the visors provide no "drag" when moving the
visor up or down.

Got some thoughts to create drag, like maybe something
gooey on the spindle that won't quite dry or something
or whatever you folks have already figured out.

I think a little quick outpatient goo install could be
in order. Any ideas from the forum or suggestions for
materials that could work?

I wrapped my spindles with electrical tape at the tip until I got the desired grip. I think it took 3 revolutions of tape.

I agree with what you are saying, but a lot of the problem comes from the spindle turning in the rubber holder.

I don't have a picture handy, but if you go to Pep Boys or another auto parts store and buy a small package of the rubber vacuum outlet seals or covers in the mid size range this will work just great. Slip one over each spindle and put it into the rubber holder and it stays tight as a drum, but will lower when needed and go back to staying closed.

I also put my Sears plier grip covers on a large set of pliers and used a shop towel for addition cushion and then crimped the (small) area that fits over the spindle to hold it tighter.

A glue of sorts would probably be the best fix for reliability, but make sure they're extended out properly before it sets.

Simple, straightforward fix, as told to me here on the forum.

Take the assembly off the windshield frame, pull the long rod out of the visor, stick it in a vice and ever so slightly, bend it. Jamb it back in. Voila. Instant, permanent fix for visor that sags. Will stay up in 70 mph wind....

Do they make a Viagra for that? TRiagra?

Seriously though, I did the bend in the vise trick also and it worked.

I threw mine away and bought a baseball cap...

Yup, stick 'em in a vice or belt 'em with a hammer over a step....just a slight bend is all you'll need.

This may be a stupid question, but here it comes. Does it matter which way they are bent? Towards the windshield or towards the passenger? Seems like towards the windshield would force them into the rubber retainers better, but that would be pushing the tip towards the thinnest part if the visor, as far as the inner material padding goes.

Is this to make the rod jam into the inner shape of the visor or to fit the retainers better?

Thanks, gentlemen. More than one good approach.

Still thinking about that Tiagra, though.
Nowadays, we have a pill for just about everything.

Very quip of you, Roof, very quip.
