'74 TR6 Rebuild up-date...rust in oil pan

Pistons installed. All Forum suggestions for verification
of rings tolerances and ring orientations have been
addressed (all six pistons were pulled and reinstalled
more carefully this time).

Front and rear seals have been installed. Oil pump has been
installed.

Getting ready to install front engine plate; timing cover
(I think is next in line -- have to refer to references)
and, of course, cover the oil pump with the oil pan (sump).
Oil pan is being cleaned for paint. Will be using new
split washers and new gasket(s), of course.

Cause we like pics, here is the inside of my oil pan.
Check out the rust. Any reason to be concerned, here?
Figure it's probably cool, what with the oil and all,
but just wanted to ask.

Making some slow but good progress. Making my way towads
the cam and, I suppose after the timing chain and stuff on
the front, I'll soon be moving to bolting on the head.
Exciting....

Thanks,

Re: '74 TR6 Rebuild up-date...rust in oil pan

Looks like a pool of water accumulated there. Condensation, or head gasket leak?
You might want to treat the surface rust with a phosphoric acid type rust treatment.
I wouldn't put any type of coating over it afterwards because of danger of it coming off in the oil.

Yeah, what HE said. ^

Clean it up and be sure there's no "scale" then bolt it on.

Sounds like there's a real chance of a "VROOM!!!" post soon! YAY!

Agreed ---- NO paint needed in there.

2wrench,

All suggestions are great, just make sure the pan is absolutly clean from all scotch pad material as it will eat theough a set of bearings in short time. That kinda goes for any engine assembly, clean is critical.
