TR6 74 TR6 - Changing headlight beam switch issue

My headlight switch (on the steering wheel) snapped off and I'm trying to replace it. The issue I am having is with the caps that are on the nuts that clamp the wires to the steering column. On one side, the cap is on the top (so I had to remove the speedometer to get at it), the other is on the bottom nut and I'm not sure whether I need to remove the tachometer or not. I've tried to remove it without taking the tach off but I haven't been successful. I am wondering if there is a special tool I could get or whether I'll need to take the tach out and remove it that way. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Ken
