TR6 74 TR-6 Value?

I am an MG guy but may have an opportunity to purchase a 74 TR-6 privately before an estate sale. It is a 2 owner car with 38,000 miles on the odo which appears to be accurate. Condition is good; it was repainted at some point but still looks good. No rust is visible except for a few tiny bubbles on the rear tip of the drivers' side rear quarter panel. The car has been sitting for at least a year but does run with a jump start. Interior is pretty nice, one split seam on driver's seat. Trunk is solid but the cardboard panel covering the gas tank is missing. It is bright yellow (Mimosa, I think) with a factory hardtop, no O/D, and disc wheels. Any idea what is a fair price?

The bubbles on the fender are a potential problem. Unless it is from poor paint prep, it is probably soon to be a hole. Dirt collects in the corners and causes rust. Check around the headlights for any indications of rust. Also look at the h deck for any signs.
Make sure the frame is solid where the rear suspension bolts to it. That whole section of the frame is prone to rust. The seat can be repaired, but while it is apart, it might be wise to install a new diaphragm and foam kit.
Prices on TR6's are moving up, but what isn't. It is hard to guess a price without seeing the car, but if it is as good as you describe without any other problems, it could sell for $10,000 or more.
Low ball an offer and see what happens.

My buddy in Albuquerque sold his 1974 (Mimosa) TR6 last month. With the exception of the mileage, it was in excellent condition. He couldn't sell it for $6,500 and ended up taking $5k. It did not have the hardtop. I'd say $6k is a good starting price for what you describe - if the rust gods have not been at work.

Ok, firstly let me say that prices for any surviving classics here in Ontario are usually higher than anywhere else in North America. This is probably why I got 12k for my 75 in August....It was brown on tan, on hardtop or O/D, seats needed a foam kit badly(I am selling one on ebay right now btw) and it needed paint(top surfaces where permanatly faded under the clear coat), plus it had some bubbling around the headlights and the rear taillights. On a good note it did run flawlessly and the frame was perfect(i replaced the diffmounts)

Is that 12k Canadian or US?

That was canadian.

For anyone who didn't see it when I first posted this, here is a rather flattering pic....in person is wasn't *as* nice.

I know this one looks like a junker right now...but I'll have it looking even better than the brown one by the spring...plus this one is perfect mechanically /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif Now I am not gunna tell what I paid for this one; wouldn't wanna drive prices down /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Junker? Is Mississauga, Ontario, the unknown capitol of used TR6s? She looks good to me...please post more "in progress" pix!

I have good luck with cars.....Just really bad luck with everything else.
I'll get some more 'progress pics' up eventually....right now it's tarped over in the driveway after apart...and even though it's missing alot of key cosmetic components I still drive it around town with no grill or interior. This weekend the seats are coming out so thats gunna kill the driving for abit. Once I get the interior all 'renewed' we'll throw some paint at it and then figure out if it's gunna be a permanent resident(possible commuter car for my son) or if it's gunna head down the road in favor of something else.

Just for curiosity's sake, since my car needs them, too, are you going to reupholster your seats, or what? New foam, etc? The only part of my TR3 that was halfway decent was the seats, so I've no experience there....

The seats that came with it are completely shot, but thanks to KLUTZ(Paul) I was able to score a set of very good used seats(in black to match my interior) plus a brand new foam kit and brand new tan seat covers for a really good price. So after debating what to do I've decided to just take the path of least resistance and put the nice used seats in my car....and sell the foam kit and seat covers along with my old seats(frames are still usable)
