Greetings and thanks in advance. My wife (widely known in these parts as The Queen) acquired a 74 Midget in '05. It has fallen to me to keep various parts suppliers in business. My mechanical skills are very limited but fearlessness is closely tied to ignorance. It runs. Right now it doesn't want to stop. No apparent leaks in brake lines but no pedal whatsoever. I suspect the master cylinder. The adventure begins. I look forward to your help.

Hi. Welcome to the best place in the world for LBC's.
To answer your question, it sounds as if the master cylinder is the culprit. Take the cap off and press the pedal.The fluid should move enough to see, and if it's good, it should actually throw fluid up and out the top. If nothing happens, the cylinder is not pumping fluid.
My only question would be, Can you get pedal if you pump the brakes? These are two sure signs you need a master cylinder.

Thanks for the response. I probably won't get to look at it for a few days. Pumping the brake does not throw fluid in the reservoir. I can see very slight movement of fluid but not much. Pumping the brake does not result in any resistance either, and believe me I've tried. Other question: Is it worth trying to repair a master cylinder or should I bite the bullet and replace? Thanks.
