MGB 74 MGB Stalls after running

I recently purchased a 1974 MGB - love it and am having a bunch of fun learning how to fix things on it. Glad I found this site - lots of information out there to help.

When I head out on the road with the car and then later come to a stop at a traffic light for example - the car will sometimes stall - it does not seem to like to idle all the time. It has new plugs, wires, distributor -- is there something I can do rather easily to solve the problem. I believe the car also has been converted from a two carb to a single carb. I know nothing about engines - but I guess I can learn.

Many Thanks

Welcome to the Forum!

There are so many possible answers to your problem, and you'll be sure to hear most, if not all, of them right here. Best thing to do is get a good service manual that will outline all maintenance and repair items.

A good start would be vacuum connections. Make sure all vacuum lines are intact, holes are either plugged or connected where they're supposed to be. Also, check your fuel filter. New ones are inexpensive and cheap insurance.

Stay tuned - others are sure to offer their tips.

my 76 mgb (also a single carb) stalled-out earlier this year, at a red light just after driving a freeway - my mechanic installed new points, condensor, egr valve, & ignition rotor - total $250 - i was happy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Might be a good idea to find out what carb you have. I have the Weber conversion in my 1978. Found that the fuel metering valve was broken - or so my mech told me. Part is inexpensive, labor is not.
