74 B side strips

I cannot locate all of the attachments for the chrome\strips on the side of my 74 B.
They have some dents and would like to replace lthem. Do I have to take the fenders of or what's the deal?

You can pull these without removing fenders. Feel along the inside of the fender and door (you will have to pull the inner door panel) and you will locate the ends of numerous rivets and one screw/nut for each piece/section.

Use some penetrating oil on the screws...the others will simply pop off of the "button".

Take a look at the Moss catalog...I believe there is a diagram there.

The pieces on the front fenders are held on by "buttons" which you can pop the trim off withg a screwdriver - except for the very front & there's a bolt in the end...you have to remove the headlight to get to it (well, if you're cautious, you might be abler to reach it without removing headlight)

...the door trim will also pop off with a screwdriver except for the center location where there's a bolt...you have to remove the inner door panel to get to it.

...the pieces on the rear quarter also come off easily with a screwdriver except for the back end by the taillight where there's another bolt.

By "removing with a screwdriver" what I mean is placing a flat screwdriver tip under the edge of the trim (properly protecting the paint, of course) & popping the trim up.

Yep...what Tony sez...Don;t fear if you twist one of the screws off...replacements are still available...that doesn't mean NOT to use penetrating oil, though!

;-)

As cheap as the fasteners are, I don't care if they break - I put new ones on anyway...whether they break or not!
