7339WD "Birthday"

Yesterday was the anniversary of the day that I first got behind the wheel of my 1962 Mk 2 Sprite and drove my new car back to RAF Fairford in England. A fellow USAF airman had driven me to "The Cape" in Warwick where I had ordered my Sprite from Donald Healey's dealership. I had to wait while a mechanic assembled my new license plate,7339WD, and then signed some paperwork and headed back to my base. It was a thrill to drive my first brand new car. My trip turned out to be memorable. About half way back and while driving through a rural area the car gradually lost power and finally just stopped running. It took a couple of minutes to realize that I was out of "petrol." While I was standing next to the car trying to figure out what to do, a passing car stopped. The driver asked what my problem was. He wound up taking me into the next town about ten miles away and then drove me back with a container of fuel. I will never forget this stranger's kindness. When I took the car back for its first scheduled service, apologies were made and they filled my tank for no charge. Several months ago when I completed my restoration I was able to get Historical Vehicle plates for my Sprite. Now a 1962 Ohio plate is on the rear of the car and once again 7339WD is mounted on the front as I cruise down the road.

Great,
It's been fun reading your stories and following along over the past few years.
