Adam Powley's book "My Dad's Models Motors" - Did We Really Think Sex Sold Cars? Published by Haynes in 2011.

Let's give equal time to "Beefcake" marketing as well... the advertising of cars was certainly aimed at men, but there are plenty of examples of using buff men in ads for products aimed at women as well. Does "sex sell"? No doubt. Is it "sexist"? IMO that term is a subjective one, depending on majority social mores of the time. Are we currently experiencing enlightenment or prudism? That's a question to be answered by some future Powley, methinks.

And attractive women wasn't my motivation for posting the Earls Court vid, rather the "modern" cars of the time and the British take on 'em.

I doubt sex "sells", but it does get our attention. One of my favorite centerfolds, from 1973 -
